Community Paint Day

Dear Northampton Community,

Come celebrate Earth Day with
the JFK Community Mural Team!

Join artists and middle school students on Wednesday, April 22nd to paint a mural
on the front of the building at JFK Middle School.

Come help us paint anytime between 11am - 2pm. This is a great way to contribute to the beautification and betterment of our community. This event is free and open to the public.

Weather permitting, we will be outside painting, so prepare to be in the sun. Recommended age: 10y/o and above. All children must be supervised by an adult.

A little more info:
Artists and high school students have been working with middle school students after school for 2 months to brainstorm and develop ideas for the mural theme. Over April break, we will transfer the design onto cloth, paint the cloth, and later glue the cloth onto the wall at the mural site.

Working hard and having fun

For the past month, JFK Middle School students have been working with artist Heather Berlin and art teacher Michelle Mallory to brainstorm and start to design the JFK Community Mural. Here, students are working on collaborative drawings. During these sessions, we became interested in the theme of transformation, and we chose the butterfly as a symbol of both personal and community transformation.

The site!

Did you know that we are designing and painting a mural to go on the front of JFK Middle School in Florence, Massachusetts?! Here is a picture of where the mural will go. We've decided to paint the wall on the left and save the wall on the right for another year...
